Abortion Recovery

Important: If you are experiencing immediate physical problems after an abortion such as pain, bleeding, fever or nausea, call your doctor now or go to an emergency room.

Post abortion stress (PAS) describes a woman’s struggle to process the fear, anger, sadness and guilt she may feel surrounding her abortion experience. Sometimes others involved in the abortion decision are affected, such as the father of the baby, parent, grandparent or other family.

Several factors that increase the risk of post abortion stress include the woman’s age, the abortion circumstances, the stage of pregnancy at which the procedure took place, and the woman’s religious beliefs.

Some commonly viewed indications of PAS might include:

  • Does anyone else feel like I do?
  • Are you struggling to turn off the feelings connected with your abortion(s)?
  • Are you affected by physical reminder of the abortion(s), such as babies, pregnant women, baby clothes?
  • Are there certain times of the year you find yourself depressed or sick, such as the anniversary date of the abortion, or the month of the would-be birth date?
  • Have you dealt with depression or suicidal thoughts?
  • Have you experienced any peculiar reactions, such as nightmares, flashbacks or hallucinations (such as a baby crying) relating to the abortion experience?

There is Hope

These and other thoughts and feelings you are having may be indications that you could benefit from our after abortion counseling. We offer free, confidential one-on-one counseling in a private, comfortable setting with someone who has also experienced abortion(s). We counsel women who are sad and confused immediately following their abortion, and those who have been unable to resolve the pain as long as 15 to 20 years later. Some women have never talked about their experience, and release comes in just relating their story. The length of counseling time and the process is personalized to your particular needs.

We also welcome the opportunity to talk with men who are struggling with the aftermath of abortion. A male mentor is available to step you through the process. We have a network of referrals for men and women who are not in our local area.

If you are considering an abortion, you may want to speak to someone here who has experienced abortion personally and can honestly answer your questions about what to expect.

It is our desire to help you walk through the past and come out a whole person, experiencing the peace healing can bring. Please take that first step today. Call for an appointment with a post abortion counselor. You are not alone, and there are women ready to help you who have been exactly where you are right now. We know we can help!!
