How Do I Decide!?

 In Abortion, Options, Pregnancy

Summary

If you think you might be pregnant and feel overwhelmed, it's important to pause, get the facts, and consider all your options—rather than rushing into a decision based on fear or emotion. This blog explains the difference between reacting and responding, encourages you to confirm your pregnancy with an ultrasound, and highlights the importance of seeking guidance and support. The Pregnancy Care Clinic offers free, confidential services to help you make an informed choice that’s best for you and your future.

Do you think you are pregnant and pretty sure that you don’t want to be?

If you truly are pregnant, you may be convinced that it will be devastating. Maybe you have plans to go to school, or your finances are tight, maybe your relationship with your partner is off and on.  It could be all the above. It may also be none of the above and you’re just not ready to have a baby.  So, how do you decide what to do?

You might not realize how easy it is to react and rush into a decision. Human nature hates disorder and pain. And pain seeks to be alleviated or removed as soon as it can be. But, it’s healthier to respond to the stressful situation rather than our emotions. When we react to our situation and rush to a solution, we normally make poor decisions…..decisions we come to regret.

What’s the difference between reacting and responding?

  • Reaction is immediate; Response is thought out.
  • Reaction is driven by feelings; Response is driven by facts
  • Reaction is defensive; Response is proactive
  • Reaction does not take into consideration long-term effects; Response considers well-being of you and those around you.

So, how do you decide?

First of all, consider these steps…..

Figure out if you are actually pregnant! Pregnancy tests are not a diagnosis of pregnancy, especially a home test. You need an ultrasound to both ensure the pregnancy is viable (located in the uterus and has a heartbeat) and to know how far along you are in your pregnancy. Here at the PCC we offer FREE lab–grade, urine pregnancy tests and ultrasounds.

Slow down. Take your time in making this decision. Listen to facts as your feelings often can misguide you. Feelings may feel true but unless they are backed by facts, they are not truth. They can change, depending on what is going on in the moment. Get good, unbiased guidance. Do your research. Make a list of pros and cons.

Make sure you understand your options and the associated benefits and risks of each one. Good guidance provided by educated individuals can help you navigate the decision-making process. You need to understand all the risks and benefits of each of your options: parenting, abortion, and adoption.

Before an abortion, have you done research on the doctor, clinic, and the associated risks to the procedure? Have you asked to know the details of what this decision involves?

Are you aware of the medical and social assistance available to you if you choose to continue your pregnancy and either parent or arrange an adoption? There are many resources available that you might not know about that could help in your decision making.

Do you know what to do if you change your mind at any point of the pregnancy? Making the best choice is a process and having someone that can listen, ask good questions, and formulate a plan should you want to change course is essential.

Do you have a plan to tell those around you that you are pregnant…?
